With Canadians set to head to the polls May 2, Halton’s federal candidates are charging full steam ahead to win the electorate’s votes.
…
Meanwhile, Conservative incumbent Lisa Raitt condemned the Liberals for “forcing an election.”
“People across Canada and here in Halton have not been looking for an election. Rather they have been looking to the federal government for a little bit of help, help that was contained in the budget.”
…
Raitt said, via email, the Conservatives’ 2011 budget outlined her party’s priorities, “continuing our support of Canada’s fiscal advantage in the world, supporting families and communities, promoting education, training and innovation, and making sure we maintain low taxes.”
…
Raitt said she plans to spend the coming weeks talking to constituents about the Conservative’s record and Stephen Harper’s leadership.”
“I would like their vote again and I leave it to them to decide,” she said.
…
In the 2008 federal election, Raitt won with 48 per cent of the 69,112 ballots cast, followed by Liberal incumbent Garth Turner with 36 per cent, NDP’s Rob Wagner with nine per cent and Amy Collard of the Green Party with seven per cent.
