
Continues To Create Jobs and Economic Growth
HALTON, ONTARIO. Jobs and economic growth continue to be created by Canada’s Economic Action Plan announced Lisa Raitt, Member of Parliament for Halton.
“Our government’s top priority is the economy, which is why we are continuing to implement Canada’s Economic Action Plan,” said Lisa Raitt, Member of Parliament for Halton. “These investments in our community have created jobs and economic growth, and will improve the lives of residents in the area so that Canadian families continue to prosper for years to come.”
Raitt joined Mayor Gord Krantz in Halton today to tour the construction site of the future Milton Centre for the Arts, a project made possible through Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“The Town of Milton, as well as Halton Region, has greatly benefitted from grants from Canada’s Economic Action plan, through the building of new civic facilities, the expansion and renovation of recreational facilities, and the expansion of roadways and trail networks, to name but a few,” said Town of Milton Mayor Gord Krantz. “Partnerships between the federal, provincial and municipal levels of government have allowed us to move forward these projects that will have a positive social, cultural and economic and impact on the Milton community for years to come.”
Across the country today, the Harper Government is demonstrating the job creation and benefits of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. Though touring the construction site of the future Milton Centre for the Arts, Raitt took the opportunity to highlight more than 20 projects happening through the Economic Action Plan and the Government’s investments in our region.

- $6,678,425.00 for the expansion of the Milton Sports Centre
- $982,733.00 for the redevelopment of the Nassagaweya Tennis Courts
- $1,000,00.00 for the John Tonelli Sports Centre Rehabilitation Project
- $230,000.00 for the renovation of a the Hugh Street Heritage Building
Delivering for North Burlington
- $750,000.00 for a new Fire Station in Northeast Burlington
- $1,000,000.00 toward the twinning of the Appleby Ice Centre
- $266,666.00 for the Orchard Community Park artificial turf sports field
- $2,300.000.00 for a new park in North Burlington
- $150,000.00 for improvements towards Bronte Creek Park facilities

- $30,500,000.00 for a new parking facility at the Oakville GO Station
- $31,200,000.00 funding for Sheridan college
- $500,000.00 for the North Park Sports Fields
Delivering for Halton Region
- $597,303.00 for Halton’s Conservation Authority for trail restoration
- $86,733.00 for the Wildwood Park Project
- $5,333,333.00 for the widening of Tremaine road
- $51,000,000.00 for renewal of the Skyway Wastewater Treatment Plant
- $250,000,000.00 in improvements to the GO Transit system
- Over $10,000,000.00 for new affordable housing projects in Halton
The Harper government is committed to stimulating the economy through the creation of jobs. Canada’s Economic Action Plan continues to create jobs and economic growth with more than 26,000 job-creating projects underway or completed from coast to coast to coast.
The results are clear: Since July 2009 Canada’s economy has created over 460,000 new jobs and the economy has grown for five straight quarters.
“The economic recovery is still fragile,” continued Raitt. “That is why we must stay on track and continue to focus on the economy.”
Canada’s Economic Action Plan provides close to $16 billion to modernize a broad range of infrastructure including roads, bridges, public transit, parks and water treatment facilities, and to support home ownership, help stimulate the housing sector and improve housing across Canada.
