A look back at Conservative leadership this fall…

The House of Commons has risen for the Christmas break and Members of Parliament have returned to their constituencies to continue working hard at home over the next few weeks.

Over the last year, our Conservative Government has worked hard to deliver real results for Canadians.

  • We’ve taken action to help support workers and families through Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
  • We’ve worked to open up new opportunities for Canadian businesses to grow and create the new opportunities of the future.
  • We’ve confidently asserted Canadian values and leadership on the world stage.
  • We’ve acted to ensure that every Canadian has the right to live, work and play free from the threat of violent criminals and predators.

But the job is not yet done. There are many Canadian families who continue to face challenges as a result of the global recession. We have begun to see positive signs, like the creation of new jobs in November, but there is still more work to do. Now is not the time to change course. We must continue to implement our plan by helping those who need it now, while laying a strong foundation for future growth and prosperity.

Unfortunately, Michael Ignatieff and the Liberals have attempted to politicize every issue that has arisen this past fall, from the H1N1 flu virus, to the Olympics, to even the difficult yet outstanding work of our soldiers in Afghanistan.

Ignatieff and the Liberals have tried to score political points at every turn, no matter how important the issues are to Canadians.

Sadly, Ignatieff and the Liberals have even used their unelected Senators to derail our action to protect families from criminals. Just recently, they voted to gut a Conservative Bill to protect children from drug dealers.  However, our Conservative Government remains undeterred.  We will continue to work to help make our streets and communities safer for families no matter what roadblocks Ignatieff and the Liberals try to throw in our way.

As we approach the last few weeks of 2009, our Conservative Government will continue to deliver results on the issues that matter most to Canadians.
