Conservative action for new Canadian professionals

On Monday, our Conservative Government introduced action to help new Canadian workers have their foreign skills and training recognized in Canada.

Our country attracts talented professionals from all around the world. The faster those workers are able to use their foreign training and skills in the Canadian workforce, the sooner they will be contributing to Canada’s long-term economic success.

In cooperation with the provinces and territories, our Government developed a new Foreign Credential Recognition program. Through investments laid out in Canada’s Economic Action Plan, the new program is helping internationally trained workers to have their qualifications assessed and recognized in a timely, fair, transparent and predictable manner.

Under the proposed program, any foreign-trained worker who submits a full application to be licensed in their field of work would be quickly informed of a decision. The worker would learn whether their qualifications would be recognized, or they would be advised of additional requirements they would need in order to be recognized. As well, new workers could also be directed to a related occupation that would benefit from their skills and experience.

This new action is part of our Government’s strategy to have the best educated, most skilled and most flexible workforce in the world. By providing immigrants with the information and referral services they need, we are helping them succeed in the Canadian workforce.

With faster recognition of foreign credentials, our Conservative Government is helping to strengthen Canada’s economy while taking action to help new Canadians get better jobs that reflect their skills and abilities.
