Conservative action helping to protect children

In today’s world, constantly evolving internet-based technology provides new ways for criminals to prey on innocent children.

To combat this threat, our Conservative Government is announcing new legislation that will make it mandatory for suppliers of internet services to report online child pornography.

Now, internet service providers, electronic mail companies, content hosting sites, and social networking sites will be held responsible if child pornography takes place on their sites or amongst their services. They must report any tips they receive regarding public websites featuring child pornography. They must also notify police and safeguard evidence if they believe that a child pornography offence has been committed using their internet services.

This important legislation will help give police the tools needed to find and stop those who commit this despicable act.

This new legislation builds on our previous action to crack down on pedophiles by raising the age of consent from 14 to 16, and our work to deliver real jail time for child traffickers.

Our Conservative Government is working to help stop the exploitation of children for the safety and security of all Canadian families.
