Canadians do not want an election. They want politicians to put their differences aside and focus on Canada’s economic recovery. Two recent polls make that point very clear. A Canadian Press Harris-Decima survey shows 73% of Canadians are opposed to an election. An EKOS poll shows more than 70% of Canadians are against a fall election. Yet Michael Ignatieff is intent on forcing one. Why?
Despite the fact that it would put Canada’s economic recovery at risk, Michael Ignatieff is ploughing ahead with an election because his real plan is to reunite the Liberal-Bloc Québécois-NDP coalition.
Yesterday, Michael Ignatieff was asked a simple question: “Mr. Ignatieff, are you ruling out a coalition yourself should you become Prime Minister?”
He could have said “no.” Instead, Ignatieff gave a circular, 51-word answer and arrogantly stated, “I don’t think I need to answer that question. I’ve made my position about coalition very clear.”
Yes, Michael Ignatieff’s position is crystal clear. He is on the on the record saying, “I’m prepared to form a coalition government, and to lead that government.”
Michael Ignatieff craves power at all costs. Forcing an unnecessary election that jeopardizes Canada’s economic recovery, and a Coalition with the Bloc Québécois and NDP that threatens national unity, Michael Ignatieff is not in it for Canadians. He’s just in it for himself.
