Liberals must stop delaying real action on crime

The safety and security of Canada’s neighbourhoods, schools and streets should not be used as a political football.  All Canadians, regardless of political affiliation, should support actions that respect victims, protect law-abiding families, and hold criminals fully accountable for their crimes.

Unfortunately, in recent months, Michael Ignatieff and the Liberals chose a difference course.  When offered the opportunity to ensure quick passage of a badly needed new law that would impose mandatory jail time for drug crimes that involve violence, organized crime, or take place near schools, the Ignatieff Liberals instead chose to use their Senate majority to play political games and block this legislation from coming into law.  By doing so, the Liberal Senators put politics ahead of public safety and left too many vulnerable Canadians hanging in the balance.

It is time for Canadians to say enough is enough.  Prime Minister Stephen Harper has acted to rebalance the Senate in order to help prevent future Liberal partisan games and obstruction.  The next step is for all Canadians to make their voices head loud and clear.

All Senators — current and incoming, Liberal and Conservative — must get to work to ensure that badly needed crime legislation is quickly passed into Law.  Contact your local MP and Senators and let them know the time to act is now.
